Iceland is one of my favorite countries that I have been to. It looks like what I would imagine another planet would look like. I had an incredible 2.5 days there and I would love to go back and spend even more time.
Reynisfjara Beach and Dyrhólaey - you cannot beat this area. Reynisfjara did not look or feel like a real place and I cannot recommend it enough.
The Golden Circle - Gullfoss Falls, Haukadalur geyser, and Þingvellir National Park are all must sees.
The Northern Lights - this will depend on when you visit but I highly recommend you try and see them! I definitely would suggest the spot we view them from, Kleifarvatn Lake.
The official currency is the Icelandic króna, but I had no problem paying by credit card.
Rental cars are definitely the most common option for tourists as it is definitely a driving heavy country. Busses are an option in the summer months.
I flew WOW Airlines from Baltimore (BWI) to Reykjavik (KEF). I flew Norwegian from Reykjavik (KEF) to Barcelona (BCN).
Traditional Icelandic foods include items like Reindeer. I stuck to more broad options like burgers and soups.
PLUGS / ADAPTERS
Iceland uses European plug types C and F.
Iceland is a member of the Schengen Agreement. This means that U.S. citizens can visit Iceland for up to 90 days without a visa.
I felt very safe throughout my time in Iceland!
SHOULD YOU VISIT?
Yes! Absolutely, 100%. It was incredible and unlike anyplace else that I have seen. It's a bit cold but honestly in October it wasn't too bad. It is so beautiful and easy to travel to from the U.S. so you should definitely put it on your list!
