SUMMARY

I had a short stay in Kazakhstan and wish I had been able to see more of Almaty while I was there. What I saw was beautiful and Almaty felt very safe.

Big Almaty Lake - beautiful turquoise colored lake outside of Almaty

Ascension Cathedral - large Orthodox church constructed out of wood

Kok-Tobe Hill - cable car with lots of activities located at the top

CURRENCY

The official currency is the Kazakhstani tenge, but I had no problem paying by credit card. 

Local TRANSPORTATION

Taxis are the most common form of transportation for tourists.

I flew Air Astana from Tashkent (TAS) to Almaty (ALA). I flew Air Astana from Almaty (ALA) to Dubai (DXB).

FOOD

I did not eat traditional Kazakhstan food.

PLUGS / ADAPTERS

Kazakhstan uses European plug type C.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

None for U.S. citizens for 30 days. 

SAFETY

I felt very safe during my time in Kazakhstan but be wary of taxis (try to arrange through your hotel).

SHOULD YOU VISIT?

Yes! Of all of the Central Asian countries Kazakhstan seems to have the most to see and do. I wish I had had more time to spend exploring the country and would like to visit Astana as well as Almaty if I were to visit again.
