I spent a lot of time in the Bishkek airport and was unable, due to flights, to see much of the country. The airport was
Ala-Archa Gorge - mountainous valley great for hiking - main attraction in Kyrgyzstan
Issyk-Kul Lake - beautiful mountain and lake area
Altyn Arashan - hot springs, snow, and more mountains
The official currency is the Kyrgyzstani som, but I had no problem paying by credit card.
Taxis are the most common form of transportation for tourists.
I flew Pegasus Airlines from Istanbul (SAW) to Bishkek (FRU). I flew Tajik Air from Bishkek (FRU) to Dushanbe (DYU). I flew Avia Traffic Company from Dushanbe (DYU) to Bishkek (FRU). I flew Air Astana from Bishkek (FRU) to Almaty (ALA).
I did not eat much but the few snacks that I had were Russian.
PLUGS / ADAPTERS
Kyrgyzstan uses standard European plug type C.
None for U.S. citizens under 60 days.
I felt very safe in the airport but don't have much advise otherwise.
SHOULD YOU VISIT?
Maybe? Only if you have time to actually explore the country. From what I could tell it was beautiful and I wish I had had more time!
