Latvia was my first of the Baltic countries and I immediately fell in love with the region. It is picturesque and I had such an enjoyable time walking around Riga. It was such a great city!
Bastejkalna parks - beautiful park running through the center of Riga, surrounding the Freedom Monument
Vecrīga (Old City) - it's historic and picturesque. Make sure you see the Three Brothers houses and visit both Riga Cathedral and St. Peter's Church
Latvian National Museum of Art - great small art museum housed in a stunning building
The official currency is the Euro, but I had no problem paying by credit card.
I walked throughout my time in Riga. I used the bus and mini bus systems to go to and from the airport.
I flew Ryanair from London (STN) to Riga (RIX). I flew Air Baltic from Riga (RIX) to Tallinn (TLL).
I didn't have traditional Latvian food but I did have amazing hot chocolate! There are tons of food options in Latvia.
PLUGS / ADAPTERS
Latvia uses European plug types C and F.
Latvia is a member of the Schengen Agreement. This means that U.S. citizens can visit Latvia for up to 90 days without a visa.
I felt very safe throughout my entire visit to Latvia.
SHOULD YOU VISIT?
Yes! Latvia was amazing and beautiful and so cute. I had a great time walking around Riga and would love to explore the country more someday! The Baltic countries are much less frequented by tourists than Western Europe but are definitely worth visiting.
