I was planning to go into Doha for a few hours but an incredibly long airport line kept that plan from coming to fruition. I would definitely like to see Doha in the future, but I had to sit it out this time to make sure I made my next flight.
Museum of Islamic Art – beautiful museum filled with artifacts from different periods of Islamic history
Souq Waqif – authentic area filled with markets, restaurants, and stalls
The Corniche – great walking area with view of Doha’s skyline and water
The official currency is the Qatari riyal, but I had no problem paying by credit card.
I did not use local transportation, but there are public busses available.
I flew Kuwait Airways from Kuwait City, Kuwait (KWI) to Doha, Qatar (DOH). I flew Oman air from Doha, Qatar (DOH) to Muscat, Oman (MCT).
I had a great meal in the Doha airport but was unable to have authentic food on my trip.
PLUGS / ADAPTERS
Qatar uses plug type D as well as British plug type G.
US citizens receive a visa waiver on arrival allowing them to stay in Qatar visa free for 30 days. This waiver can be extended for another 30 days.
I felt safe while in Qatar but I did not leave the airport so I do not have much advice to offer on this point.
SHOULD YOU VISIT?
Perhaps! I think you can definitely do it in a short amount of time, and I definitely plan to go back and see Doha in the future.
