Ukraine

SUMMARY

I didn't stay long in Kiev, Ukraine, but while I was there I did not feel very welcomed. I encountered some very rude airport staff but also some kind ones as well. The city was dirty but overall seemed safe.

Country #54 - Ukraine

Map

Must see

Market Square - beautiful central square in Lviv

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - Caves Monastery - architecturally incredible religious site

Andriyivski Uzviz - the heart of Keiv

CURRENCY

The official currency is the Ukrainian hryvnia, but I had no problem paying in USD everywhere I went.

Local TRANSPORTATION

Taxis are the most common form of transportation for tourists. I used Uber while in Ukraine.

international transportation

I flew Belavia from Minsk (MSQ) to Kiev (IEV). I flew Ukraine from Kiev (KBP) to Chișinău (KIV).

FOOD

I did not eat while in Ukraine.

PLUGS / ADAPTERS

Ukraine uses European plug types I and F.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

None for U.S. citizens up to 90 days.

SAFETY

I felt moderately safe in Ukraine. Kiev definitely was a bit rough around the edges but I was able to transit easily and felt safe on the whole.

SHOULD YOU VISIT?

I wouldn't. There are honestly much more enjoyable countries without political turmoil all around the area. I felt very unwelcome most of the time, though there were a few friendly people. I'm sure that there are beautiful places and friendly people but I'll be tainted by the unfriendly experience for a while.
