United Arab Emirates
I had an amazing time in Dubai, UAE! It might be located in the middle of the desert but there is so much to see and do. I felt so safe throughout my trip and I cannot recommend it enough!
Dubai Mall / Dubai Fountain / Burj Khalifa - there is so much to do in this area it is insane! Dubai Mall is draw-droppingly giant and amazing to walk around. Dubai Fountain was tied for my favorite thing in Dubai - it is truly incredible and is a must see! Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and I definitely recommend you go up in it.
Ski Dubai / Mall of the Emirates - if you need another giant mall head over to Mall of the Emirates where you'll find Ski Dubai! My other favorite thing in Dubai was definitely Ski Dubai - I had an amazing time meeting penguins, tubing in the snow, riding the ski lift, and more!
Dubai Marina / The Palm - the Dubai Marina area is beautiful and definitely see The Palm from above if you can
The official currency is the United Arab Emirates dirham, but I had no problem paying by credit card.
The metro is super easy to use, very clean, and very affordable. There are also women and children only cars which I had never seen before but were honestly super nice. Taxis are another option but I relied solely on public transportation. When staying at Dunes Hotel during a transit stop I took a car to the hotel and taxi back to the airport.
I flew Air Astana from Almaty (ALA) to Dubai (DXB). I flew Saudia from Dubai (DXB) to Jeddah (JED). I also flew flydubai from Kabul, Afghanistan (KBL) to Dubai, UAE (DXB). I flew flydubai from Dubai, UAE (DXB) to Skopje, Macedonia (SKP).
Dubai is filled with Western food. However you can also find regional food as well - I even had Syrian ice cream!
PLUGS / ADAPTERS
UAE uses European plug types C and D and British plug type G.
None for U.S. citizens for 30 days.
I felt very safe throughout my time in Dubai. Whether I was in a mall, walking down the street, or on the metro I felt so safe at all times.
SHOULD YOU VISIT?
Yes! It is amazing! So incredibly hot, but definitely worth the visit. There is so much to do (though most of it is obviously very touristy or shopping) and I had the best time. I cannot wait to come back and I also really want to visit Abu Dahbi someday soon!
